Trivia Time 5!!

'Great success is built on failure, frustration, even catastrophe!'

Take the great inventor of the light bulb - Thomas Edison for example:

When a reporter asked him, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?"

To this, Edison replied, "I didn't fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."

Welcome back to my blog my trivia-buddies! Here are today's three trivia questions for you to reason on... And, as mentioned - Success is built on failures! So, do comment your answers too!
All the best!๐Ÿ‘

1. What is the largest desert on earth?

2. Our bodies need iron! Where in the body is most of the iron found?

3. Which is the strongest fundamental force in the universe?

Answers

1. The Antarctic Desert is the largest desert on earth spread over 14 million square kilometres (5.4 million square miles)! 98% of Antarctica is covered in ice!

➪Deserts aren't always those with really high temperatures. Deserts are characterised by aridity, extremes of temperature (either very high or very low), and high wind velocity.

2. Most of the iron in our body is present in the Red Blood Cells (RBCs) of our blood! A pigment called haemoglobin is mainly responsible for giving our blood the red colour and this haemoglobin constitutes most of the iron of our body! This iron-constituting pigment is responsible to the transport of oxygen from the lungs to all the tissues of the body.
➪Myoglobin is one more iron-and-oxygen binding protein found in the skeletal muscular tissue of our body and is distantly related to haemoglobin. It functions as an oxygen-storage unit, providing oxygen to the working muscles.
➪Small amounts of iron are also present in the immunocytes that are essential for the activation and proliferation of the immune cells.
➪Iron is also found in the liver as it performs a major role in iron homeostasis. It is the main organ for the production of the iron regulatory hormone hepcidin.
➪Iron is also stored in the form of ferritin and hemosiderin in the bone marrow, spleen, deodenum and other anatomic areas of the body.

3. Strong Nuclear Force is the strongest fundamental force in nature. It is the force that binds the fundamental particles of matter together to form larger particles. It holds together the quarks that make up protons and neutrons, and part of the strong force also keeps the protons and neutrons of an atom's nucleus together. The strong nuclear force is 6 x 10^39 times stronger than the gravitational force of the earth!

The strongest power of mankind is knowledge!

Trivia Time 4!!

"The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge."

Hello my fellow inquisitive learners! Hope you're doing great on your staircase to Success. Here are today's three trivia questions for you to crack...

1. What is the highest mountain in the universe?

2. How much air does an average adult breathe in a day?

3. What is the coldest temperature possible in the universe?

"Letting others light their candles from your candle of knowledge doesn't make your candle less brighter!"

So, do comment the answers to the trivia questions too!
I'll post the answers on 27th April (Tuesday).. So till then, wishing you Best of Luck!๐Ÿ‘

Answers:

1. Scientists have observed that the galaxies other than ours are moving away from us, day by day! This clearly proves that our universe is expanding! And, believe it or not, astronomers estimate there to be billions of planets in the universe, most of which we haven't explored yet!
➪So, we could never know what the highest mountain in the universe is for the universe is changing every second holding millions of possibilities!
➪If the question had been - 'What is the highest mountain in our solar system?', the answer would be 'Olympus Mons - a large volcano on Mars with its height as 22km'.

➪Whereas if the question had been - 'What is the highest mountain on earth?', the answer would be '8.849 km high Mount Everest located on the Nepal-China border'.

➪But, the tallest mountain on earth is Mauna Kea! Taking its height from the base is 10.21 km but only 4.207 km of it is visible above sea.

2. An average adult breathes about 11,000 litres of air per day!
*Note that its about an average adult, so the number for any individual might be a bit up or down*

3. The coldest temperature possible in the universe is -273 degree Celsius / -459.4 degree Fahrenheit / 0 Kelvin. This is called the 'Absolute Zero'.

➪Temperature and heat are a measure of how much energy a particle has to jiggle with. And since, you cannot move any less than not moving at all which requires the lowest energy and temperature, the Absolute Zero is the lowest temperature anything can be!
➪The place with the lowest temperature yet discovered is Boomerang Nebula of the Centaurus constellation with its temperature equal to 1K which is very close to the absolute zero.

And remember:
'Curiosity is the mother of invention'
So, always be curious!:)

Trivia Time 3!! *Earth Day special*

WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO OUR EARTH? ๐ŸŒŽ

We are all the descendants of Mother Earth. Earth is our homeland that nourishes and supports our roots and survival. But, what have we given back to our Earth in return? Nuclear explosions and wars against our fellow beings? Destruction? Deforestation? Pollution? Global warming and Climate Change?! It was our moral responsibility to preserve the authenticity of our homeland! And, it is very sad to know that we've realised this fact only 51 years ago that - WE WERE THE ONES SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE EARTH!

Hence, Earth Day is celebrated every year on the 22nd of April (which is tomorrow), to spread the message of 'SAVE THE EARTH'. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 which led to an increased awareness among people about all the threats our earth is facing like - overpopulation, climate change, global warming, air pollution, water pollution, disturbance in ecological balance, deforestation, depletion of resources like fossil fuels and what not! If our reckless activities would have still continued, we would have created hell on earth!

Also, as a fun fact, always remember, that the food we do not eat, the food we waste, also contributes a small percentage towards climate change and all the problems that our earth is facing! You might think how a mere dish of rice or vegetables can lead to climate change and all, but it's true! You're not the only one on this planet, right? So, imagine if all the 7.9 billion people wasted food like that? What would be the consequences? Won't it be much better to offer our leftover food to the needy? 1.89 billion out of the 7.9 billion are poor! So fine, I'll give my leftover food to the needy, but what's in it for me? Right now, in this situation, there is NO ME AND NO YOU! We all need to implement the 4R's - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in our daily lives as one single entity - as humans to ensure our continual existence on earth.

Hope you understood how grave this matter has actually become and will do your part in this global cause to help stop pollution and global warming! So, without further ado, here are today's Earth Day special trivia questions. Do comment the answers... I'll post the answers on 23rd April (Friday). And, also think about methods how we could combat global problems like Climate Change and Deforestation.

All the best on your quest to solve not only these trivia problems but the global problems!๐Ÿ‘

1. Due to ______________, Indian cities of Mumbai and Chennai are predicted to be underwater by 2050.

2. Compared to the times with no human civilisation, the number of trees in the world has decreased by ____________.

3. _____________ (number of people/percentage of population of earth) do not have access to safe drinking water.

Answers:

1. Due to global warming, Indian cities of Mumbai and Chennai are predicted to be underwater by 2050.
-When excessive fossil fuels are burnt or excessive air pollution takes place in the form of exhaust from chimneys and smoke from vehicles, the amount of Carbon Dioxide and other greenhouse gases like Methane and Nitrous Oxide in the atmosphere increase.
-As a result, this increases the greenhouse effect causing global warming.
-The greenhouse effect is a phenomenon that warms the earth's surface. It is actually very important to maintain the just right temperature required on earth to sustain life.
-But, when the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increase (as stated above), it leads to global warming. As part of the natural greenhouse effect, only some amount of heat is trapped into the earth's atmosphere while the other heat is re-emitted into space. But, in the human-enhanced  greenhouse effect, most of the heat gets trapped into the earth's atmosphere - resulting in the increase in the earth's surface temperatures. This increase in global temperatures is called Global Warming.
-Now, due to global warming, the polar ice caps and glaciers are melting (as ice melts when temperature increases!), resulting in the increase in the sea level (as ice melts to form water, which gets added up to the sea, increasing its volume and level!). Because of this increase in sea level, places located near the sea coasts are predicted to submerge.
-Already half of the city of Jakarta (capital of Indonesia) has sunk underwater. Jakarta is the world's fastest sinking city - as fast as 10 centimetres per year. And, in line to Jakarta, the Indian cities of Mumbai, Surat, Kolkata and Chennai are predicted to sink underwater by 2050!

2. Compared to the times with no human civilisation, the number of trees in the world had decreased by 46%.
-Approximately 15 billion trees are chopped down every year for paper, timber, farmland and city expansions and other human needs.
-However, only 5 billion trees are re-planted every year. That means there's a net loss of 10 billion trees every year.
-If this rate would continue, it would mean that earth would lose all of its trees within the next 300 years. Hence, its our moral duty to support afforestation for the betterment of mankind and the earth.

3. 29% of the world's population (2.1 billion people) do not have access to safe drinking water.
-The governments and activists all over the world have worked to provide access to safe drinking water to all, but yet this hasn't been achieved.
-Our earth is called the blue planet and about 71% of our earth is water. But, not all of this water can be used by human beings. 97.5% of this water is found in seas which is too saline to be used for human activities. And only 2.5% is freshwater present in ice caps, glaciers, under the ground, rivers, lakes etc.
-This is because inspite of sanitation instructions, many factories still throw out untreated chemical wastes into rivers and lakes making the sources of freshwater acidic (or basic). Also, many poor people (example : living in slums) have to share common ponds or rivers for all their activities leading to transmission of diseases like cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid and Hepatitis through water.
-Also, about 3-4 million people die every year due to water diseases.

Trivia Time!! 2

Welcome back to the world of knowledge! Here are today's three trivia questions for you to explore... Do comment the answers!!

The answers would be posted on 20th April, 2021 (Tuesday).
Wishing you Luck!๐Ÿ‘

1. The new generation (born between 2010 and 2024) is called _________________.

2. How many blood types do humans have?

3. The highest temperature ever recorded on earth was ______________.

Answers:

1. The new generation born between 2010 and 2024 is called Generation Alpha
-Members of Generation Alpha are also often called Screenagers as they are born in a time where technical gadgets are readily available and grow up with the gadgets.
-The screenagers are said to possess great technical skills and are able to make their way out of any technical crisis in no time! This is because they have been using the technical gadgets since they are born.
-Also, according to a survey, many children (of the new generation, of course!) in the US get their first technical gadget (which is usually an iPad) by the time they are 2!

2. Humans have 4 main blood types - A, B, AB and O; based on the antigens present on the surface of the red blood cells of the body.
-There are two different types of antigens - A and B.
-So, people having antigen A on the surface of their red blood cells, will have blood type A.
-And, people having antigen B on the surface of their red blood cells, will have blood type B.
-While, people having both the A and B antigens on the surface of their red blood cells will have blood type AB.
-And, people having neither of A nor B antigens on the surface of their red blood cells will have blood type O.
-There is one more antigen system in our cells - the RH factor.
-So, people having the RH antigens present on the surface of their red blood cells, are RH positive.
-While, people not having the RH antigens are RH negative.
-Hence, there are in total 8 blood groups : A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+ and O-

3. The highest temperature ever recorded on earth was 56.7 degree Celsius (134 degree Fahrenheit).
-It was recorded on 10th July 1913 at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California, USA.

1. Nikola Tesla proposed the World Wireless System which laid the foundation for the invention of _______________.

2. What is the shape of the universe?

3. Why do we sense pain (when we touch something hot or sharp)?

Answers:

1. Nikola Tesla proposed the World Wireless System which laid the foundation for the invention of the Internet
-Scientists around 1900 proposed that one day we would have a network of information which could be accessed worldwide.
-Nikola Tesla in the early 1900s proposed a world wireless system that he claimed could transmit energy all around the globe.
-On these grounds, the internet was developed by the end the 1900s by modern scientists.

2. The universe is proposed to be curved, like the surface of the seat on the back of a horse (saddle).
[however there are many theories regarding the same]

3. Our body has nerve cells (or neurons) that transmit the messages (including pain) from our body parts to the brain. The pain is actually sensed when these messages reach the brain via the nerve cells.
